Drafted: Shauna McElligott Heads to North Melbourne at Pick 49 in the 2025 AFLW Draft

15 December 2025

HAD Football client Shauna McElligott has been drafted by North Melbourne at Pick 49 in the 2025 AFLW National Draft.

Shauna's story is one for every young footballer to take note of. She was overlooked for Vic Metro in 2025, but kept improving all season. She started the year in the forward line, made the most of her midfield minutes, and finished as the Calder Cannons' best and fairest winner (the Meg McArthur Medal) and leading goal kicker with 12 goals.

A 162cm small forward who can also play through the midfield, Shauna is known for her clean fundamentals, composure with the ball and tackling pressure. North Melbourne's AFLW list manager Flynn Loft described her as "a composed decision-maker with ball in hand."

Shauna joined HAD Football in 2023 at 17. Along with the technical parts of her game, a big focus of her program was confidence on the field and in herself. Her parents, John and Renae, say HAD "has had a huge impact on Shauna as a person, her football and fulfilling her draft dream."

Congratulations, Shauna. We can't wait to see you in the blue and white.
