HAD Football Athlete Evie Parker has been drafted by Fremantle at Pick 38 in the 2024 AFLW National Draft.
Evie, a wing with elite speed and athleticism, was drafted from Box Hill in the VFLW. She came through the Eastern Ranges in the Coates Talent League and represented Victoria at the AFLW Under 18 Championships.
Asked what she'd tell her younger self, Evie's first piece of advice is about ownership. "All of the resources are laid out for you: gym and recovery facilities, skills coaches, wellbeing. But it's on you to drive your own career. However much you want to put into it and commit to the program is what you will get out of it."
Her second is about balance, something HAD Football builds into every athlete's program. "Footy can become so consuming. It's super important to enjoy your studies or hobbies outside of footy, so that when you are at home and away from the club you can switch off from footy mode and it won't take all of your energy."
Evie now coaches with HAD Football in Western Australia, passing on the standards she lives every day at Fremantle, and the lessons she wishes she'd known sooner, to our WA athletes.
Congratulations, Evie.
